Meadowdale Interventions

Together we are ‘Making it happen’ at Meadowdale Academy this year and we are able to provide pupils with a new range of exciting opportunities on the timetable. Four new initiatives taking place alongside our usual interventions in reading, writing, maths, handwriting, motor skills and social skills.

‘Rainbows’ a programme that supports personal development and well being. The programme involves group activities, discussion, crafts and culminates with a ‘Celebrate Me’ session. Rainbows GB is a national programme and aims to guide children and young people through life’s storms. When something significant happens in a family everyone in that family is affected. The issues of separation, death or other loss can have a profound effect on the children who are touched by such experiences. Children can find it difficult to verbalise their feelings because of their age and inexperience. ‘Rainbows’ offers an avenue to find ways to cope more positively with change and loss.

Life Skills builds upon learning in citizenship and TAD. Our pupils regularly demonstrate a great life skill which is the ability and willingness to learn. By learning new skills we increase our understanding of the world around us and equip ourselves with the tools we need to live a fulfilling life, finding ways to cope with the challenges that may come our way. Life skills for a life-long learning journey will generate challenge, opportunity and experiences to develop confidence, responsibility, social skills and a community centred outlook.

Maths Whizz is an interactive personalised computer based program which we have invested in to support the development of mathematical skills for pupils.

Lexia is a personalised and individual literacy programme. It places the pupil at the correct level of learning and from that point they work for 20 minutes at least 3 times per week reinforcing learning or overcoming a specific difficulty.
